UPC ministry of Eastern District began in Tamil Nadu in 1958. Rev. Ellis Scism and Rev. George Shalm started this ministry in various places in Tamil Nadu, with Kodaikanal as the Central locaon of their ministries. Rev. V. Jeyaraj was the first presbyter in the administraon. Following him, Pr. A. S. Rajiah and Pr. Devasahayam Manickam also played important roles in the ministry as well as in the administraon. Pr. D. Paulraj also ministered in several places and served as a Presbyter for some years.
Now we have established churches in Chennai, Madurai and Kanyakumari Districts with all departments ministering in our district. One Bible school has been funconing since 1986, which was started during the period of Rev. George Shalm by Rev.E.J.Corcoran. Another one Bible College fishermans net in Chennai ayanavaram. By grace of God we have been establishing preaching points where UPC does not have churches.
The UPC in India began its work in the Andhra district in 1960 under the leadership of the late Rev.Ellis Scism, who was the founder of UPC in India. Pr. M.B. Jeyaraj was a pioneer worker who, along with Rev. Scism, established several churches in Guntur and Tadepalligudem. The work progressed well under their supervision. Later, Rev. Victor Monday took over as a special officer and everything connued to go smoothly.
Today, we have many Churches, belivers and pastors who have been bapzed in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth in cies like Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada, Repalle, Visakhapatnam, Parvathipuram, Bobbili, Srikakulam, and in some parts of Odisha and Punjab. We are grateful to the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth for His blessings.
NCI encompasses regions in Delhi, MP, Haryana, Chasgarh and Rajasthan, boasng over 17 churches and 97 preaching points. The districts annually hosts a bible school, empowering future leaders. Ministries for Ladies, Youth and Sunday School thrive with special events like VBS providing enriching experiences. Seminars and workshops drive outreach efforts, fastering growth and community engagement. Addionally, the youth acvely parcipate in special programs and seminars across UPC churches in India, contribung to a dynamic and interconnected community.
